Afifa Lahbabi
Growing up surrounded by the rhythm of her native Morocco gave Afifa an early appreciation for music and dance. Her formal dance background has included tap, ballet and modern, she has been intensively trained in flamenco by Rosario Ancer and Victor Kolstee here in Vancouver. Afifa has also trained intensively in Spain with Alicia Marquez, Adela Campallo, Belen Maya and Mercedes Ruiz. Through Rosario and Victor, Afifa has had the opportunity to study and perform alongside many talented artists such as Sabas Santos, Marisol Moreno, Carmen de Torres, Claudia Villarreal, Miguel Angel and Mariano Cruceta.
Afifa is a dancer in the Flamenco Rosario dance company, has been a soloist in the Cuadro Flamenco series since 2003 and has performed in many theatre productions, including Flamenco y Las Americas, Los Cuatro Vientos, Mis Hermanas, and the Vancouver Flamenco Festival since 2003. Afifa was invited as a featured soloist for the 2005 and 2007 Vancouver Flamenco Festival, and the 2004 and 2005 Pemberton Folk Festival. Afifa appears at various venues in and around Vancouver. Since 2002, she has been a regular performer at the Kino Cafe and a member of Flamenco Alcala.
