Afifa Lahbabi

Growing up surrounded by the rhythm of her native Morocco gave Afifa an early appreciation for music and dance. Her formal dance background has included tap, ballet and modern, and she has been intensively trained in flamenco by Rosario Ancer. Through Rosario, Afifa has had the opportunity to study with many talented teachers and to perform alongside such artists as Sabas Santos, Marisol Moreno, Carmen de Torres, Myriam Allard, Claudia Villarreal and Miguel Angel.

Afifa is a dancer in the Flamenco Rosario dance company, has been a soloist in the Cuadro Flamenco series since 2003, and has performed in many theatre productions, including Flamenco y las Americas, Los Cuatro Vientos, and the Vancouver Flamenco Festival since 2003. Afifa performed at the 2004 Pemberton Folk Festival and was invited back in 2005. In the fall of 2006, Afifa spent two months training intensively in Sevilla, Spain with Alicia Marquez, Adela Campallo, Belen Maya and Mercedes Ruiz.

Afifa appears at various venues in and around Vancouver. Since 2002, she has been a regular performer at the Kino Cafe and a member of Flamenco Alcala.
